Miss Li -- Owner, Teacher
Hi, I am Miss Li, or in the spirit of immersion, Zhou Laoshi. I grew up in China and received my BA from Wuhan University. Prior to coming to the US for higher education, I worked in the Foreign Trade and Investment field in China. After I received my M.B.A. from University of Hawaii, I started the first laser tag family entertainment center in China, and was the exclusive distributor of the equipment in the Chinese market. It is this international business experience that formed the basis for my belief in children's need to develop cross-cultural skills and attitudes in order to stay competitive in a very diverse and pluralistic world.
In 2009, when I was pregnant with my first child, I left my business career for the most important job I would have to date, full-time mom. It was during this time that I really dove into learning much more about early childhood education because I want to set the right foundation for my kids from the very beginning.
Now as the mother of two, I realize how important their early years were and the positive impact I had on their growth. There is nothing more gratifying than witnessing a young child learn something new, knowing you have been a driving force behind that growth. It was this passion for nurturing my own two children that led me to seek my certification in Early Childhood Education and eventually led me to create A&D Stars.
I find myself truly enjoying teaching and being an advocate for children. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing that smile when I have helped a child, whether it be something as small as finding the right puzzle piece or something as big as teaching them to read and write.
I am extremely proud that A&D Stars provides a great environment for kids where we’re focused on having lots of fun and making sure kids are set up to be successful once they move on to Kindergarten and beyond.

Miss Kate -- Teacher
Hi, I am Miss Kate, Bu Laoshi. I grew up in Minnesota, and started studying Chinese from a community based program as a teenager. I went on to get my Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and Master’s degree in Chinese Studies from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.
Since returning to work after being a full time stay-at-home mom to my own 4 children for 10 years, I have served as an AmeriCorps volunteer doing Chinese Language program coordination. I have also worked as an assistant teacher in a variety of Chinese language programs in Frederick County geared towards children from age 3 through middle school, including those at New Market Elementary School, St. John’s Regional Catholic School, and through the STARTALK Center for STEM-Integrated Chinese Studies though the Asian American Center of Frederick.
To prepare for my work at A & D STARS, I received my 90-Credit Hour Childcare Certification which included classes on Early Childhood Growth and Development as well as in developing Preschool Curriculum.
